I Love Lucy. Really!

So there is an 'I Love Lucy' marathon on, and I've been watching for a few hours now. I just can't quit. They're on their European tour. I'm sitting here wondering what it is/was about these shows that today's shows just don't have. I honestly could watch them nonstop and not get tired of them.

So far I've seen the following episodes:
  • Lucy locks herself in the trunk & her childhood doctor has to ID her through a hole in the trunk so that she can get her passport for Europe
  • Lucy & Fred fall asleep on the Staten Island Ferry and they almost miss out getting their passports for Europe
  • Lucy misses the boat (literally) going to Europe, and has to be dropped onto it via helicopter
  • Ricky entertains on the boat and Lucy is upset because everyone is coupled off (Fred is even romantic with Ethel, who calls him "Tiger") so she locks him in the cabin. Turns out he took the night off and Luch gets stuck in the porthole tryin to track down Ethel with their room key!
  • Fred & Ricky have dresses made from burlap for the ladies while in Paris -- they wear them and the famous designer loves it and steals their design (haha .. .their hats were the best part; Ethel's was a wine cooler bucket and Lucy's was an actual horse feed bag)
  • The gang are in a small hotel whose elevator is broken. They have to climb four flights of stairs. It's Little Ricky's birthday, and Lucy befriends some village children and throws Little Ricky a birthday party in his honor for the children
Now we are at one of my faves. The current episode is the one where Lucy will be stomping the grapes ... she's doing her homework for being in an Italian movie. Gosh the things she can get herself in! Sure am glad she does.

Some of my other favorites? Well, there's Vitameatagegamin. "It's so tasty, too! Tastes just like Candy. Join the thousands of happy, peppy people and love it, too!

And the one where the girls get jobs at the chocolate factory, of course!!!

So back to the European tour episodes. When it was time to head back to New York, Lucy couldn't resist taking her mom that 25 pounds of cheese. Only the airline wouldn't allow it. Remember? She tried to sneak it on board as a baby? And then she cut it up and put it in the band's instruments!

Speaking of souvenirs ... they're the theme of a whole lot of episodes when the Ricardos and Mertzes go to Hollywood!

Like, when she climbed the wall to steal a grapefruit at Richard Widmark's house because as usual, Ricky won't introduce them. Remember how she gets stuck in his house?  What about the one where she enlists Fred & Ethel to steal the ultimate Hollywood souvenir, John Wayne's footprints at Grohmann's Chinese Theater! They were all funny, but one I remember laughing the most about was when Lucy has to put on a disguise because she has already embarassed herself with William Holden and now Ricky is bring him home to meet her! Remember? She catches her nose on fire when he tries to light her cigarette!

Gosh. They were all good ... and classic.

I'll leave you with a sweet one. It's from the night that Lucy slips Ricky a note at the Tropicana that someone in the audience is "expecting" (I read somewhere that they could not use the word "pregnant" on the show, only the word "expecting") ... he went around to all of them singing a lullaby and of course, all the other ladies shook their heads "no" until he got to Lucy.

I'll stop now. But I'll never stop
Loving Lucy.
